English language proficiency tests recognised for admission to UCIC.

Score must be achieved in a single test. Combining results from multiple tests is not acceptable.

Don’t Meet the English Requirements?

If you don’t meet the English language requirements then you may wish to enrol in an intensive English language course. The Christchurch College of English (CCEL) is based on campus at the University of Canterbury and offer a range of programmes that pathway students direct to UCIC and the University of Canterbury. English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

UC International College (UCIC) offers English for Academic Purposes 1 (EAP 1). This programme is designed for international students to meet the English language requirements needed for their next level of study in New Zealand.

EAP 1 are delivered by our preferred on-campus English language provider, Christchurch College of English (CCEL).

  • Start Dates: 24 February; 9 June; 13 October
  • Duration: 12 weeks
  • Hours: 20 hours per week + 5 hours per week of optional independent learning
  • Location: On campus or online (for overseas students)
  • What you will study: Reading; writing for exams and essays; understanding lectures; presentation skills
  • Entry requirements: IELTS 5.0 (or equivalent). The EAP 1 level assessment can be taken overseas before arriving in New Zealand
  • Fees: NZ$5,184 (indicative) plus additional costs such as enrolment, materials, and exams
  • Outcomes: By completing the EAP 1 programme, you will meet the English Language requirements of UCIC’s international undergraduate pathway programmes.
