Academic Requirements

Requirements

To enter UCIC programmes, students must meet both the academic and English language requirements.

Below you will find the academic requirements for Certificate in Foundations Studies (CFS) a pre-university preparatory programme.

Scrolling further down you will find the Diploma in University Studies (DipUS) and Study Abroad academic requirements. DipUS is the equivalent to year one of the undergraduate degree.

Certificate in Foundation Studies Academic Requirements

Australia academic requirements

The following is required for Australia students:

  • Completion of Year 11 with passing grades in four (4) subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Azerbaijan academic requirements

The following is required for Azerbaijan students:

  • Completion of the Certificate of Complete Secondary Education with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Bahrain academic requirements

The following is required for Bahrain students:

  • Completion of the Tawjihiya (General Secondary School Education Certificate) with a 60% average or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Bangladesh academic requirements

The following is required for Bangladesh students:

  • Completion of the High School Certificate / Intermediate Certificate with a 60% average or higher, or Year 11 with a 70% average or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Brazil academic requirements

The following is required for Brazil students:

  • Completion of the Certificado de Conclusao de Ensino Medio with a GPA of 5.5 or higher in three (3) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Brunei academic requirements

The following is required for Brunei students:

  • Passing grades in four (4) Brunei O level academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Cambodia academic requirements

The following is required for Cambodia students:

  • Completion of Year 11 with a 65% average or higher, or completion of the Diploma in Upper Secondary Education with a C average or higher in four (4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Canada academic requirements

The following is required for Canada students:

  • Completion of Year 11 with passing grades in four (4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Chile academic requirements

The following is required for Chile students:

  • Completion of Licencia de Educacion / Ensenanza Media with a 65% average or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

China academic requirements

The following is required for China students:

  • Completion of Senior Middle 1 plus one semester of Senior Middle 2 with a 75% average or better, or completion of Senior Middle 2.
    • Zhongzhi / Zhi Gao students must have completed Senior Middle 2 with a 60% average or higher.
    • Note that grades in English, Chinese and Politics will be excluded from the admissions assessment.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Colombia academic requirements

The following is required for Colombia students:

  • Completion of the Bachiller Academico with a 65% average or higher. Completion of the Bachillerato Technico will considered on a case by case basis.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Egypt academic requirements

The following is required for Egypt students:

  • Completion of the Tawjihiya (General Secondary School Education Certificate) with a 60% average or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study.

Fiji academic requirements

The following is required for Fiji students:

  • Completion of the School Leaving Certificate with 200 points or higher across four (4) subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

General Education Development (GED) Diploma academic requirements

The following is required for General Education Development (GED) Diploma students:

  • Completion of the GED with at least 145 points in each subject.

Hong Kong academic requirements

The following is required for Hong Kong students:

  • Completion of Senior Secondary Year 2 with passing grades in four (4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

India academic requirements

The following is required for India students:

  • Completion of Year 10 of the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CISCE) or the All India Secondary School Examination (CBSE) with a 65% average or higher in four (4) academic subjects; or completion of Year 10of a Secondary School Certificate awarded by a recognised Board of Secondary Education with a 70% average or higher in four (4) academic subjects; or completion of the All India Senior Certificate or the Higher Secondary School Certificate with a 50% average or higher in four (4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Indonesia academic requirements

The following is required for Indonesia students:

  • Completion of SMA 2 with a GPA of 7.0 or higher, or completion of SMA 3.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

International Baccalaureate academic requirements

The following is required for International Baccalaureate students:

  • Completion of Year 1 of the IB.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Japan academic requirements

The following is required for Japan students:

  • Completion of Year 2 of General Upper Secodnary School (Kotogakko) with a Grade 2.5 average or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Jordon academic requirements

The following is required for Jordon students:

  • Completion of the Certificate of General Secondary Education with a 50% average or higher in four (4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Kazakhstan academic requirements

The following is required for Kazakhstan students:

  • Completion of the Diploma of Completed Sewcondary Education with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Kenya academic requirements

The following is required for Kenya students:

  • Completion of the KCSE with aGPA of C or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Kuwait academic requirements

The following is required for Kuwait students:

  • Completion of the Tawjihiya (General Secondary School Education Certificate) with a 60% average or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Macau academic requirements

The following is required for Macau students:

  • Completion of Senior Middle 2 with a 60% average in four (4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Malaysia academic requirements

The following is required for Malaysia students:

  • Completion of SPM 5 or UEC with passes in four (4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Mexico academic requirements

The following is required for Mexico students:

  • Completion of the Titulo Academico de Bachiller / Diploma de Bachiller with a 65% average or higher.
    • Students who have completed the Titulo de Bachiller Tecnologica will be considered on a case by case basis.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Morocco academic requirements

The following is required for Morocco students:

  • Completion of the Diplome du Baccalaureat (Attestation du Baccalaureat) with a grade of 10 or higher in all subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Myanmar academic requirements

The following is required for Myanmar students:

  • Completion of the Year 11 Matriculation Exam with a grade of 50% of higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Nepal academic requirements

The following is required for Nepal students:

  • Completion of the Year 11 Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate with a 50% average of higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

New Zealand - NCEA academic requirements

The following is required for New Zealand - NCEA students:

  • Completion of a minimum of 36 credits from Level 2 and 3, with at least 10 credits in each of three (3) UE approved subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have completed at least 10 credits in math/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have completed at least 10 credits in math/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Nigeria academic requirements

The following is required for Nigeria students:

  • Completion of the SSCE (WAEC/NECO) with a grade of D7 or better across five (5) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Oman academic requirements

The following is required for Oman students:

  • Completion of the Thanawiya Amma with a 65% average or better in academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Pakistan academic requirements

The following is required for Pakistan students:

  • Completion of the Year 11 Higher Secondary School Certificate with a 70% average of higher in academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Papua New Guinea academic requirements

The following is required for Papua New Guinea students:

  • Completion of the Upper Secondary School Certificate (Grade 12) with a GPA of 2.0 or higher in three (3) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Philippines academic requirements

The following is required for Philippines students:

  • Completion of Year 11 with a 70% average or higher in academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Russia academic requirements

The following is required for Russia students:

  • Completion of the Certificate of Secondary (Complete) General Educaiton with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Saudi Arabia academic requirements

The following is required for Saudi Arabia students:

  • Completion of Tawjihiya (General Secondary School Education Certificate) with a 70% average or higher in academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Singapore academic requirements

The following is required for Singapore students:

  • A total of 8 points or more in Singapore GCE N (Academic Stream) levels or passing grades in four (4) Singapore GCE O levels.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Solomon Islands – Samoa – Vanuatu – Tonga – Kiribati – Tuvalu – Nauru academic requirements

The following is required for Solomon Islands – Samoa – Vanuatu – Tonga – Kiribati – Tuvalu – Nauru students:

  • Completion of the Pacific Senior Secondary Certificate.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

South Africa academic requirements

The following is required for South Africa students:

  • Completion of Year 11 with passing grades in four(4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

South Korea academic requirements

The following is required for South Korea students:

  • Completion of Year 2 of Senior High School with a Rank average of 6 or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Sri Lanka academic requirements

The following is required for Sri Lanka students:

  • Completion of Sri Lankan GCE IGCSE with a minimum of four (4) passes.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Taiwan academic requirements

The following is required for Taiwan students:

  • Completion of Senior Middle 2.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Thailand academic requirements

The following is required for Thailand students:

  • Completion of Matayom 5 with a 60% average or higher, or completion of Matayom 6.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Turkiye academic requirements

The following is required for Turkiye students:

  • Completion of the Lise Diplomasi with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

UAE academic requirements

The following is required for UAE students:

  • Completion of Tawjihiya (General Secondary School Education Certificate) with a 70% average or higher in academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Ukraine academic requirements

The following is required for Ukraine students:

  • Completion of the Diploma of Complete General Secondary Education with a GPA of 6.0 or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

United Kingdom or Cambridge International Examinations academic requirements

The following is required for United Kingdom/ Cambridge International Examinations students:

  • Completion of the GCSE/IGCSE with passing grades in four (4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

USA academic requirements

The following is required for USA students:

  • Completion of Grade 11 with passing grades in four(4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Vietnam academic requirements

The following is required for Vietnam students:

  • Completion of Year 11 with a GPA of 6.0 or higher.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Zimbabwe academic requirements

The following is required for Zimbabwe students:

  • Completion of Year 11 with a 60% average or higher across academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to study Science at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus and students intending to study Engineering at the bachelor's level must have successfully studied maths/calculus, physics and chemistry.

Diploma in University Studies (DipUS) and Study Abroad Academic Requirements

Entry into the DipUS generally requires the successful completion of Year 12 of secondary school or its equivalent (this is equivalent to Year 13 in the New Zealand education system).

Not all qualifications are listed, so if you have other qualifications, please send details to the UCIC Admissions Office admissions@ucic.ac.nz for assessment.

Diploma in University Studies

Australia academic requirements

The following is required for Australia students:

  • Completion of Year 12 with a 65% average or higher, or an ATAR score of 60 or higher.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

Azerbaijan academic requirements

The following is required for Azerbaijan students:

  • One year of successful relevant study at a recognised tertiary provider in Azerbaijan

Bahrain academic requirements

The following is required for Bahrain students:

  • Completion of the Tawjihiya (General Secondary School Education Certificate) with a 70% average or higher across four (4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

Bangladesh academic requirements

The following is required for Bangladesh students:

  • Completion of the High School Certificate with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

Brazil academic requirements

The following is required for Brazil students:

  • Completion of the Certificado de Conclusão de Ensino Médio with an average of 7.0 or higher across three (3) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

Brunei academic requirements

The following is required for Brunei students:

  • Brunei / Cambridge GCE A level: passes in 3 academic subjects (minimum of 3 points).
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

Cambodia academic requirements

The following is required for Cambodia students:

  • Completion of the Diploma in Upper Secondary Education (Year 12) with an B average or better across four (4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

Canada academic requirements

The following is required for Canada students:

  • Completion of Grade 12 with a 55% average or better across four (4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

Chile academic requirements

The following is required for Chile students:

  • Completion of the Licencia de Educacion / Ensenanza Media with a GPA of 70% or higher.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

China academic requirements

The following is required for China students:

  • Completion of Senior Middle 2 with a 70% average or higher; or completion of Senior Middle 3 with a 60% average or higher.
    • Note that Zhongzhi / Zhi Gao sutdents must complete Middle School 3.
    • Note that grades in English, Chinese and Politics will be excluded from the admission assessment.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

Colombia academic requirements

The following is required for Colombia students:

  • Completion of the Bachiller Academico with a 70% average or higher.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

Egypt academic requirements

The following is required for Egypt students:

  • Completion of the Tawjihiya (General Secondary School Education Certificate) with a 70% average or higher across four (4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

Fiji academic requirements

The following is required for Fiji students:

  • Completion of the Year 13 Certificate with an aggregate score of 200 or higher in four (4) subjects.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

General Education Development (GED) Diploma academic requirements

The following is required for General Education Development (GED) Diploma students:

  • Completion of the GED with at least 160 points in each subject.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must earn at least 165 points in Maths and Science.

Hong Kong academic requirements

The following is required for Hong Kong students:

  • Completion of the Hong Kong Diploma in Secondary Education (HKDSE) with a minimum of 8 points across academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

India academic requirements

The following is required for India students:

  • Completion of the India Senior Certificate or the Higher Secondary School Certificate with a 60% average or better across four (4) subjects.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

Indonesia academic requirements

The following is required for Indonesia students:

  • Completion of SMA3 / National Examinations with a 70% average or higher across four (4) academic subjects.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

International Baccalaureate academic requirements

The following is required for International Baccalaureate students:

  • Completion of at least 18 points across six (6) subjects.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

Japan academic requirements

The following is required for Japan students:

  • Completion of Year 3 of General Upper Secondary School (Kotogakko) with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
    • Note that students intending to enrol in the Science Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus and students intending to enrol in the Engineering Stream must have successfully studied Maths/Calculus, Physics and Chemistry.

Jordon academic requirements

The following is required for Jordon students:

  • Completion of the Certificate of General Secondary School Educaiton with a 75% average or higher across four (4) academic subjects.
