Requirements

To enter UCIC programmes, students must meet both the academic and English language requirements.

Below you will find the academic requirements for Foundations Studies Certificate (FS) a pre-university preparatory programme.

Scrolling further down you will find the University Transfer Programme (UTP) and Study Abroad academic requirements. UTP is the equivalent to year one of the undergraduate degree.

Foundation Studies Certificate Academic Requirements

Afghanistan academic requirements

The following is required for Afghanistan students:

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 Graduationa Certificate (also known as Baccalauria/Baccalaureate Certificate with a 50% average or better

Angola academic requirements

The following is required for Angola students:

  • Ensino Geral Certificado de Habilitações / Certificado de Habilitações with a grade of 12 or better in 4 relevant subjects.

Australia academic requirements

The following is required for Australia students:

  • Successful completion of Year 11 with acceptable grades

Azerbaijan academic requirements

The following is required for Azerbaijan students:

  • Tam Orta Təhsil Haqqında Attestati (Certificate of Complete Secondary Education): with 3.0 average

Bahrain academic requirements

The following is required for Bahrain students:

  • Tawjihiya (General Secondary School Education Certificate) with 60% average in academic subjects or US High School Diploma

Bangladesh academic requirements

The following is required for Bangladesh students:

  • Higher School Certificate / Intermediate Certificate with a 50% GPA; or Year 11 (10+1) with a 70% GPA%

Botswana academic requirements

The following is required for Botswana students:

  • Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education with passing grades in 4 academic subjects or IGCSE with passing grades in 4 academic subjects

Brazil academic requirements

The following is required for Brazil students:

  • Certificado de Conclusão de Ensino Médio with an average of 6.0 in 3 academic subjects

Brunei academic requirements

The following is required for Brunei students:

  • Brunei / Cambridge GCE O level: passing grades in 4 academic subjects IGCSE: passing grades in 4 academic subjects

Cambodia academic requirements

The following is required for Cambodia students:

  • Year 11 with a 65% average or completion of the Diploma in Upper Secondary Education with a C average in 4 academic subjects

Canada academic requirements

The following is required for Canada students:

  • Successful completion of Year 11 with passing grades in 4 academic subjects

Chile academic requirements

The following is required for Chile students:

  • Licencia de Educación / Enseñanza Media with a minimum average of 65%

China academic requirements

The following is required for China students:

  • Successful completion of Senior Middle 1 and completion of 1 semester of Senior Middle 2 with 75% average. Or successful completion of Senior Middle 2 or 3 with no GPA requirement.
  • Grades in English, Chinese, and Politics will be excluded from admission assessment.

China – Vocational Secondary School (Zhongzhi/Zhi Gao) academic requirements

The following is required for China – Vocational Secondary School (Zhongzhi/Zhi Gao) students:

  • Successful completion of Senior Middle 2 or Senior Middle 3, with 60% average in academic subjects.

Colombia academic requirements

The following is required for Colombia students:

  • Bachiller Académico with a minimum average of 65%. Successful completion of Bachillerato Technico considered on a case by case basis

Egypt academic requirements

The following is required for Egypt students:

  • Tawjihiya (General Secondary School Education Certificate) with 65% average in academic subjects or US High School Diploma

Fiji academic requirements

The following is required for Fiji students:

  • Completion of Fiji School Leaving Certificate with a minimum aggregate of 200 in top 4 subjects

Ghana academic requirements

The following is required for Ghana students:

  • WASSCE: grade D7 or better in 5 academic subjects.IGCSE: passing grades in 4 academic subjects

Hong Kong academic requirements

The following is required for Hong Kong students:

  • Successful completion of Senior Secondary 2 with passing grades in 4 academic subjects. Passing grades in 4 relevant IGCSE/O Level academic subjects.

India academic requirements

The following is required for India students:

  • Successful completion of Year 10 with 65% or better in 4 academic subject in the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CISCE) or All India Secondary School Examination (CBSE); or successful completion of Year 10 with 70% or better in 4 academic subjects in a Secondary School Certificate awarded by a recognised Board of Secondary Education; or All India Senior Certificate or the Higher Secondary School Certificate 50% or better in 4 academic subjects.

Indonesia academic requirements

The following is required for Indonesia students:

  • SMU2 with average of 7.0 or completion of SMU III

International Baccalaureate academic requirements

The following is required for International Baccalaureate students:

  • Completion of Year 1 of IB

Iran academic requirements

The following is required for Iran students:

  • High School Diploma with a grade average of 13/20 or higher OR Pre-University Certificate with a grade average between 10 and 11 out of 20 OR Students who have no completed high school will be considered on a case-by-case basis

Iraq academic requirements

The following is required for Iraq students:

  • Secondary School Certificate with 65% average in academic subjects or US High School Diploma

Japan academic requirements

The following is required for Japan students:

  • General Upper Secondary School: Year 2 with a Grade 3 average; or successful completion of Year 3

Jordon academic requirements

The following is required for Jordon students:

  • Certificate of General Secondary Education with 50% average in 4 academic subjects

Kazakhstan academic requirements

The following is required for Kazakhstan students:

  • Diploma of Completed Secondary Education with 3 average or higher

Kenya academic requirements

The following is required for Kenya students:

  • Completion of KCSE with a D grade average; or GCE IGCSEs: passing grades in 4 relevant subjects

Kuwait academic requirements

The following is required for Kuwait students:

  • Tawjihiya (General Secondary School Education Certificate) with 65% average in academic subjects or US High School Diploma

Macau academic requirements

The following is required for Macau students:

  • Completion of Senior Middle 2 with an average of 70% in 4 academic subjects

Malaysia academic requirements

The following is required for Malaysia students:

  • SPM (equivalent to IGCSE), Form 5 or UEC with minimum 4 passes in academic subjects

Mexico academic requirements

The following is required for Mexico students:

  • Título Académico de Bachiller / Diploma de Bachiller with a minimum average of 65%.Título de Bachiller Tecnológico considered on a case by case basis

Morocco academic requirements

The following is required for Morocco students:

  • Diplôme du Baccalauréat (Attestation du Baccalauréat) with a grade of 10 in all subjects

Myanmar academic requirements

The following is required for Myanmar students:

  • Successful completion of year 11 equivalent (Matriculation Exam)

Nepal academic requirements

The following is required for Nepal students:

  • Completion of Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (Year 11) with a grade average of 50%

New Zealand - NCEA academic requirements

The following is required for New Zealand - NCEA students:

  • NCEA: 12 credits in each of 3 university approved subjects at Level 2

Nigeria academic requirements

The following is required for Nigeria students:

  • SSCE (WAEC/NECO): grade D7 or better in 5 academic subjects

Oman academic requirements

The following is required for Oman students:

  • Thanawiya Amma (General Education Diploma/General Certificate in General Education/General Secondary School Certificate/Secondary School Leaving Certificate) with 65% average

Pakistan academic requirements

The following is required for Pakistan students:

  • Completion of Higher Secondary School Certificate (Year 11) with a grade average of 50% in academic subjects

Philippines HS system until 2017 academic requirements

  • Secondary School Year 4, grade C

Philippines current HS system academic requirements

The following is required for Philippines students:

  • Successful completion of Year 11 with an 80% average in relevant academic subjects

Russia academic requirements

The following is required for Russia students:

  • Certificate of Secondary (Complete) General Education with 3.0 average

Saudi Arabia academic requirements

The following is required for Saudi Arabia students:

  • Tawjihiya (General Secondary School Education Certificate) with 60% average in academic subjects or US High School Diploma

Singapore academic requirements

The following is required for Singapore students:

  • Singapore / Cambridge GCE N level (Academic Stream): With an aggregate of 8 points or better across three academic subjects.Singapore / Cambridge GCE O level: passing grades in 4 relevant subjects.IGCSE: passing grades in 4 relevant subjects.Completed one year of successful study towards a 3 year Diploma at a recognised polytechnic.Solomon Islands / Samoa / Vanuatu / Tonga / Kiribati / Tuvalu / Nauru.Pacific Senior Secondary Certificate Grade 6 or better

South Korea academic requirements

The following is required for South Korea students:

  • Senior High School Year 2 with minimum Rank 6 average

Sri Lanka academic requirements

The following is required for Sri Lanka students:

  • GCE IGCSE with a minimum 4 passes

Taiwan academic requirements

The following is required for Taiwan students:

  • Completion of Senior Middle 2 with an average of 70% in 4 academic subjects

Tanzania academic requirements

The following is required for Tanzania students:

  • Year 11 with minimum average 60% or GCE O level with a minimum 4 passes

Thailand academic requirements

The following is required for Thailand students:

  • Matayom 5 (Maw 5) with minimum average 60% (2.5) or Completion of Matayom 6

Turkey academic requirements

The following is required for Turkey students:

  • Lise Diplomasi (State High School Diploma) grade 2 or above

UAE academic requirements

The following is required for UAE students:

  • Tawjihiya (General Secondary School Education Certificate) with 65% average in academic subjects or US High School Diploma

Ukraine academic requirements

The following is required for Ukraine students:

  • Diploma of Complete General Secondary Education with 6 average

United Kingdom or Cambridge International Examinations academic requirements

The following is required for United Kingdom/ Cambridge International Examinations students:

  • GCSE/IGCSE: passing grades in 4 relevant subjects

United States of America academic requirements

The following is required for United States of America students:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent with minimum 60% in 4 academic subjects

Vietnam academic requirements

The following is required for Vietnam students:

  • Successful completion of Year 11 with a 6.0 GPA

Yemen academic requirements

The following is required for Yemen students:

  • Thanawiya (General Secondary Education Certificate, also referred as Al-Thanawiya) with 65% average in academic subjects or US High School Diploma

Zambia academic requirements

The following is required for Zambia students:

  • Year 11 with minimum average 60% or GCE O level with a minimum 4 passes

Zimbabwe academic requirements

The following is required for Zimbabwe students:

  • Year 11 with minimum average 60% or GCE O level with a minimum 4 passes

UTP and Study Abroad Academic Requirements

Entry into the UTP generally requires the successful completion of Year 12 of secondary school or its equivalent (this is equivalent to Year 13 in the New Zealand education system).

Not all qualifications are listed, so if you have other qualifications, please send details to the UCIC Admissions Office info@ucic.ac.nz for assessment.

NOTE: UTP Science students who wish to study Maths, Physics or Chemistry will need to achieve higher grades in these subjects at high school level (as per UTP Engineering entrance requirements).

  • Minimum 2 points from 2 GCE A level with passes in 2 academic subjects H2 level

  • Completed two years of successful study towards a 3 year Diploma at a recognised polytechnic.

Solomon Islands / Samoa / Vanuatu / Tonga / Kiribati / Tuvalu / Nauru academic requirements

  • PSSC Grade 6 or better

South Africa academic requirements

The following is required for South Africa students:

  • Successful completion of National Senior Certificate with a matriculation endorsement for further study at either Higher Certificate, Diploma or Degree level

South Korea academic requirements

  • High School Certificate of Graduation Year 12 with average Rank 6 in 4 academic subjects.

Sri Lanka academic requirements

The following is required for Sri Lanka students:

  • Sri Lankan A Levels with a minimum C grade

  • Senior High School (Year 3) - 70% average in 4 academic subjects

Thailand academic requirements

  • Matayom 6 with an average grade of 2.5

Turkey academic requirements

The following is required for Turkey students:

  • Devlet Lise Diplomasi (State High School Diploma) with a GPA of 3.0 with no Math subject below 2.5

UAE academic requirements

The following is required for UAE students:

  • Tawjihiya (General) with 75% average in 4 academic subjects

Ukraine academic requirements

The following is required for Ukraine students:

  • Diploma of Complete General Secondary Education 8 average or higher in 4 academic subjects

United Kingdom / Cambridge International Examinations academic requirements

The following is required for United Kingdom / Cambridge International Examinations students:

  • Passes in two A Level or AS Level academic subjects (with a minimum of 3 points)
  • For A Level and Cambridge International Examinations points are attributed as follows: A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1.
  • For AS Level (GCE 'A' Levels A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1. AS Levels are equivalent to half points, e.g. A=2.5)

Vietnam academic requirements

The following is required for Vietnam students:

  • Year 12 (Tốt Nghiệp Phổ Thông Trung Học) with a 6.0 average in 4 academic subjects

Yemen academic requirements

The following is required for Yemen students:

  • Tawjihiya (General Secondary School Education Certificate) with 75% average in 4 academic subjects

Zimbabwe academic requirements

The following is required for Zimbabwe students:

  • Zimbabwe General Certificate of Education at Advanced Level with passes in two academic subjects (with a minimum of 3 points)

UTP: Science

Academic requirements

The following is required for UTP Science students:

  • Majors with specific maths requirements: UTP Science: Computer Science, Financial Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics. Majors with specific maths and physics requirements - UTP Science: Astronomy and Physics.

Afghanistan academic requirements

The following is required for Afghanistan students:

  • One year of successful relevant study at a recognised tertiary provider in Afghanistan.

Angola academic requirements

  • One year of successful relevant study at a recognised tertiary provider in Angola

Australia academic requirements

  • Successful completion of Year 12 with 70% or better in Math and/or Physics (depending on intended major) and 65% or better in two other subjects or ATAR = 60 or OP = 16

  • Higher School Certificate with a GPA of 3.25 or higher. Must attain 3.5 in Maths and/or Physics were required for intended major

  • Certificado de Conclusão de Ensino Médio with an average of 7.0 in 3 academic subjects

  • Brunei / Cambridge GCE A level: passes in 2 academic subjects (minimum of 3 points)

Cambodia academic requirements

  • Diploma in Upper Secondary Education (Year 12) with an A grade in Math and/or Physics (depending on intended major) and a B grade or better in two other subjects

Canada academic requirements

  • Average of 55% across six Year 12 subjects with a minimum grade requirement of 60% for Maths, Physics and Chemistry if required for intended major

Chile academic requirements

The following is required for Chile students:

  • Licencia de Educación / Enseñanza Media with a minimum average of 70%. Must attain 75% in Maths and/or Physics were required for intended major.

China academic requirements

The following is required for China students:

  • Successful completion of Senior Middle 2 with 70% average and with 75% average in Mathematics. Or successful completion of Senior Middle 3 with 60% average and with 65% average in Mathematics.
  • Grades in English, Chinese, and Politics will be excluded from admission assessment.

China – Vocational Secondary School (Zhongzhi/Zhi Gao) academic requirements

The following is required for China – Vocational Secondary School (Zhongzhi/Zhi Gao) students:

  • Completion of Senior Middle 3 with the Graduation Certificate, with 60% average in academic subjects, and with 65% average in Mathematics.

  • HKDSE: 4 points in Core Maths + passing grades in 1 or 2 elective subjects. Depending on intended major may also require 2 points in Physics and/ or Math 1/Math2.
  • Students with Math grade lower than requirements may be considered for admission on a case by case basis.

India academic requirements

The following is required for India students:

  • All India Senior Certificate or Higher Secondary School Certificate 65% or better in Math and/or Physics (depending on intended major) and 60% or better in 2 other subjects

Indonesia academic requirements

The following is required for Indonesia students:

  • SMU3/National Examinations - Average overall grade 6.5 in academic subjects and a minimum of 7.5 in Maths and/or Physics depending on intended major

International Baccalaureate academic requirements

The following is required for International Baccalaureate students:

  • International Baccalaureate Diploma score of at least 20 points over 6 IB units. Students expected to have completed some subjects relevant to their intended specialisation.Successful completion of IB Certificate (or less than 6 subjects) may be considered.

Iran academic requirements

The following is required for Iran students:

  • High School Diploma + Pre-University Certificate grade average of 12/20 or higher. Must attain 14 in Maths and/or Physics were required for intended major.

Iraq academic requirements

The following is required for Iraq students:

  • Secondary School Certificate with 80% average in 4 academic subjects. Must attain 85% in Maths and/or Physics were required for intended major.

Japan academic requirements

The following is required for Japan students:

  • General Upper Secondary School (Kotogakko), Year 3 with 2.5 average and a grade of 3.0 or better in Maths and/or Physics depending on intended major

Jordon academic requirements
